Grant Linnell

I feel incredibly privileged to be part of The Reid O’Leary Charitable Trust, created in memory of Reid. I had the pleasure of watching him grow up and, over time, came to think of him as more than just our friends’ son – he was a mate. Losing him at just 21 was heartbreaking, and it’s something that will always stay with me. His loss didn’t just shake his family and friends, it rocked the wider community too.

For me, being involved in this trust is about honouring Reid and standing alongside his family. I want to play my part in making a real difference, so that other young people might find the support and tools they need when life feels overwhelming.

My strengths lie in getting things done, organising  and putting my building skills to good use – whether it’s helping run events, setting up projects, or making sure the practical side of things happens. I enjoy rolling up my sleeves and making sure ideas don’t just stay as ideas, but turn into something real.

The support we’ve had from so many people has been overwhelming, and it gives me hope that together we can achieve something lasting. With the resource we’re about to launch for school children – giving them ways to manage their feelings and mental health – it feels like we’re taking real steps toward change. Knowing that Reid’s memory is at the heart of this keeps us all focused on why we’re here and what we’re working for.
